Phoenix Books

Meanwhile they moved further up the street. The bookstore will have it's 25th anniversary next week. The interesting thing is the brown box. People can drop their used books (well, also new ones they don't want to read) in there. Then other people can look through the box and see if there's anything in there they like to read. This way books can easily be shared among a broad audience. I like the idea and have taken books from the box as much as I have brought my used books there.

  1. I utilize these 'book-drops' all the time. I think it is a sin to throw out books.

  4. That brown box idea (which I think is brilliant) reminds me of scheme that used to exist on the London Underground railway network (the 'tube').
People would leave a book they had finished with on a seat with a message stuck inside the front cover which said something like, "if you find this book it's yours to take home and read on condition that you return it to the Undeground when you have read it."
If that were my shop I'd ask people to leave a small charitable donation when they take something.
